4. The 'Big Six'.

The six most important words in French that you simply cannot get by without are; BE, HAVE, SAY, DO, GO AND MUST. And they are all verbs of course. Learning how to conjugate them takes a little more practice because they don‟t follow the same simple pattern as the ER verbs we have just looked at. That said, it‟s not impossible and you will use them so often that it will quickly fall into place. The two most important verbs of the six are BE (ETRE) and HAVE (AVOIR). Just take for granted that we will not write TO in front of every verb, such as TO BE, TO HAVE, TO SAY, TO DO etc. ETRE (TO BE) we‟ll make an exception for Shakespeare on this one).
